Master AutoTech Downtown State SLC diagnoses, services and repairs automatic and manual transmissions for drivers across downtown and central Salt Lake City. We tell you whether you need a fluid service, a repair or a rebuild before any work starts, and back the work with our 12-month / 12,000-mile warranty*.
Stop-and-go traffic on State Street and I-15 heats up transmission fluid and wears it out faster. Our shop is on State Street between 900 South and 1300 South, so we’re easy to reach before a small shifting problem turns into a rebuild.

What Salt Lake City Drivers Say
“Took my Hyundai in for a coolant leak I couldnt fix myself. John T worked on my car, and got it fixed quick! It wasnt an easy job. John was AWESOME. Mike at the front dest was friendly and took care of me. I will absolutely bring my car back here next time.”
Cameron Gillies
“Great new location of Master [Autotech]. I have gotten many car repairs done with them and had great service. I really recommend Jessi. He is the best mechanic in Salt Lake! He’s very experienced and has been honest and reliable. I first saw him a few years ago when I needed a second opinion on a repair. Another mechanic shop had quoted a very costly, extensive repair. Jessi was able to find the real problem and repair at a fraction of the cost, so I keep going back with both of my vehicles. Highly recommend!”
Alina Austin
“I take both my cars here and ask for Jessi. He is the only person I will let work on my cars. He is honest and only fixes what I need fixed and he lets me know what I might need to do in the future. He always makes me feel like he has my best interest in mind. Thanks Jessi and Master Tech Auto!!!”

How Often Should You Service Your Transmission?
Most automatic transmissions need a fluid service every 30,000 to 60,000 miles; check your owner’s manual, because some “lifetime” fluids still benefit from changing. Towing, stop-and-go traffic on State Street and 1300 South and climbing the canyons heat the fluid and break it down faster.
| Driving condition | Recommended fluid service |
|---|---|
| Normal commuting | Every 50,000–60,000 miles |
| Towing, hauling or mountain driving | Every 30,000 miles |
| Manual transmission | Every 30,000–60,000 miles |
| CVT | Follow the manufacturer schedule closely |
Signs You Need Transmission Repair
Catching transmission problems early can mean a repair instead of a rebuild. Watch for:
- Slipping gears or RPMs that climb without acceleration
- Rough, harsh or delayed shifts
- A delay before the car moves in Drive or Reverse
- Red or brown fluid under the vehicle
- A burning smell after driving
- Whining, clunking or humming noises
- The check engine or transmission warning light
How Much Does Transmission Repair Cost in Salt Lake City?
Transmission costs range from a fluid service to a full rebuild, so diagnosis comes first. Price depends on the transmission type (automatic, manual or CVT), what failed, and your vehicle. Many shifting problems are solved with a solenoid, sensor or fluid service rather than a rebuild. We’ll explain every option and price before we start.
Need to spread out the cost? Master AutoTech offers several financing options, including the Goodyear Credit Card (6-month special financing on purchases of $250 or more), the Synchrony Car Care credit card, the 1stMILE Mastercard, Snap Finance, Acima, Surepay and RC Willey financing.
