Under the hood of a car tune up

Are you going to be doing a lot of driving this summer? If so, it’s time to make sure your vehicle is in proper working order before you hit the road. Small issues can quickly become large problems if not addressed at the right time. This is why it’s always a good practice for drivers to get their vehicle tuned up before a long road trip.

What’s a Tune-Up?

A tune-up is an important maintenance procedure during which a mechanic will check and adjust all of the vehicle systems that affect its combustion process. At Master Muffler Clearfield, we go the extra mile while performing a standard tune-up including all of the following and more as part of our service.

Spark Plug Inspection

Spark plugs channel the spark that lights the fuel-air mixture in each engine cylinder, ultimately generating the energy that moves the vehicle forward. Bad spark plugs create problems such as reduced fuel efficiency, trouble starting the vehicle, and decreased engine performance.

Fuel Filter Inspection

The fuel filter is tasked with screening out dirt and rust particles from the fule and are found inside most internal combustion engines. Failure to change the fuel filter when needed can lead to undue engine wear.

Distributor Cap Check

The distributor’s role is to take the spark generated by the battery/coil and distribute it to each of the spark plugs. The distributor cap is the cover that protects the distributor’s internal parts and creates contact points between the internal rotor and spark plug wires. A bad distributor cap can lead to several minor, though inconvenient problems.

Spark Plug Wire Check (replace if needed)

If the spark plug wires are worn and frayed, we will replace them. Overlooking damaged spark plug wires can affect the entire ignition and engine systems leading to hard-starting and poor performance.

Belt Inspection

There are two main belts all drivers should be familiar with when it comes to auto repair and maintenance. These are the serpentine belt and the timing belt. Both of these belts help to maintain the timing and function of the engine as well as the distribution of power throughout the vehicle.

Battery Inspection

Most of us know the damper a dead battery can put on someone’s day. A quick test of the battery will determine whether or not it is still healthy.

Oxygen Sensor Inspection

The oxygen sensor is a vital component that measures the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gases that exit the engine. A faulty oxygen sensor can impact the engine’s timing, combustion intervals, and other essential functions, thus having a considerable impact on performance.

Air Filter Inspection

The air filter is a straightforward component in the air intake that cleans the air that makes its way into the combustion chamber of the engine. If the air filter is dirty and clogged for too long, it could lead to engine problems.

Coil Inspection

The ignition coil magnifies the electrical from the energy, creating a spark that is distributed to the spark plugs. A worn or damaged coil will cause problems with ignition, ultimately preventing the car from starting altogether.
