These tips for things to include in a car emergency kit could save you hours of hassle, and might even end up saving your life someday!

In Case of an Accident, or Car Trouble

Some basic tools will help you to get your car back on the road for long enough to bring your car in. Others are basic fixes for common problems. And just in case the problem is bigger than you can handle on the side of the road, basic emergency essentials can ensure that you are able to flag down help.

So, make sure your car has a toolbox that includes:

  • screwdrivers
  • adjustable wrench
  • pressure gauge
  • gloves
  • vise grip

Just in case, it’s also smart to have:

  • flare
  • fire extinguisher
  • jumper cables
  • water (for overheated engine)
  • brake fluid
  • Antifreeze
  • flashlight
  • duct tape
  • tow cables or rope

A First Aid Kit Is a Must

How often are you out and about when an accident happen? Usually it’s because you’re out on an adventure, with only you and your car in easy access. Whether you’re having a day at the lake, out camping, or sledding in the park, make sure that your car is equipped with a few emergency basics, including:

  • band aids
  • antiseptic
  • gauze
  • scissors
  • tweezers
  • tissues or wet wipes
  • painkiller
  • sunscreen
  • bug spray
  • snacks

Important Considerations for Winter

If you’re in a place that expects harsh winters (like Utah) you need to add a few extra things in your car to prevent your car getting stuck in the snow. Make sure your car is equipped with:

  • ice scraper
  • salt
  • kitty litter (to get traction on icy snow)
  • blanket
  • snow shovel

Don’t Forget Important Car Information

  • license
  • registration
  • proof of insurance (and contact info)
  • map of your state at least
  • emergency numbers (in case your cell phone isn’t working)
