How Cache County Emissions Testing Works
Cache County requires an emissions test for most gasoline and diesel vehicles to renew registration. Your renewal notice tells you whether your vehicle needs one this year. Here’s what to expect:
- Bring your vehicle and registration renewal notice. The test is tied to your VIN and plate.
- We connect to your vehicle’s computer. On 1996 and newer vehicles, the test reads the on-board diagnostic (OBD-II) system and readiness monitors.
- Results are sent electronically. A pass is reported to the state so you can renew online.
- If it fails, we explain why. You’ll get the codes and our recommendation before any repair.
Common Reasons Vehicles Fail Emissions
These are the repairs we see most often after a failed test:
- Check engine light on
- Faulty oxygen sensors
- Failing catalytic converter
- Loose or damaged gas cap
- EVAP system leaks
- Engine misfires from plugs or coils
- Readiness monitors not set after a battery change
Tip: if you recently replaced the battery or cleared codes, drive normally for a few days before testing so the monitors can reset.
How Much Does Emissions Testing Cost in Logan?
Emissions test fees are set by the county, so the price depends on where your vehicle is registered. If your vehicle fails, repair cost depends on the cause: a gas cap or sensor is a small repair, while a catalytic converter is a bigger one. We always show you the codes and quote the repair before starting.
Need to spread out the cost? Master AutoTech offers several financing options, including the Goodyear Credit Card (6-month special financing on purchases of $250 or more), the Synchrony Car Care credit card, the 1stMILE Mastercard, Snap Finance, Acima, Surepay and RC Willey financing.
Emissions Repairs We Handle
- Oxygen and air-fuel ratio sensors
- Catalytic converters (see muffler & exhaust)
- EVAP purge and vent valves, hoses and gas caps
- Ignition coils, spark plugs and misfire repair
- EGR valves and passages
- Exhaust leaks ahead of the oxygen sensors
Environmental Responsibility
Cache Valley’s winter inversions trap pollution in the valley, and vehicle emissions are a big part of it. Keeping your vehicle in spec isn’t only a registration requirement; it helps keep Cache County air cleaner and usually improves fuel economy too.
What Logan Drivers Say
“I had a great experience. They were very quick and friendly. They were able to repair my damaged muffler same day and for a great price. Even fixed some of the plastic guards underneath my car that were hanging loose.”
Connor Ross
“I’m in the middle of a tricky rebuild on a classic and needed some very precise exhaust parts bent. I made templates but even still wasn’t 100% sure they would work. Jeremy did an exceptional job bending the parts as close to my templates as possible. After fitting them back at my shop I found that some adjustments were needed (not his fault). This happened a few times as I refined the fit. Each time Jeremy very patiently helped me out until I got the fit I needed. I definitely will be back and will recommend this shop to others.”
Jeremy Jenkins
“The new owners here are great! Jeremy was kind and professional and went the extra mile – he even gave my toddler a popsicle while we waited. They gave us a great price and were very quick and helpful. The waiting room and bathroom were clean and newly renovated. I would definitely recommend this shop to anyone in Logan!”
