How Weber County Emissions Testing Works
Weber County requires an emissions test for most gasoline and diesel vehicles to renew registration. Your renewal notice tells you whether your vehicle needs one this year. Here’s what to expect:
- Bring your vehicle and registration renewal notice. The test is tied to your VIN and plate.
- We connect to your vehicle’s computer. On 1996 and newer vehicles, the test reads the on-board diagnostic (OBD-II) system and readiness monitors.
- Results are sent electronically. A pass is reported to the state so you can renew online.
- If it fails, we explain why. You’ll get the codes and our recommendation before any repair.
Common Reasons Vehicles Fail Emissions
These are the repairs we see most often after a failed test:
- Check engine light on
- Faulty oxygen sensors
- Failing catalytic converter
- Loose or damaged gas cap
- EVAP system leaks
- Engine misfires from plugs or coils
- Readiness monitors not set after a battery change
Tip: if you recently replaced the battery or cleared codes, drive normally for a few days before testing so the monitors can reset.
How Much Does Emissions Testing Cost in Ogden?
Emissions test fees are set by the county, so the price depends on where your vehicle is registered. If your vehicle fails, repair cost depends on the cause: a gas cap or sensor is a small repair, while a catalytic converter is a bigger one. We always show you the codes and quote the repair before starting.
Need to spread out the cost? Master AutoTech offers several financing options, including the Goodyear Credit Card (6-month special financing on purchases of $250 or more), the Synchrony Car Care credit card, the 1stMILE Mastercard, Snap Finance, Acima, Surepay and RC Willey financing.
Emissions Repairs We Handle
- Oxygen and air-fuel ratio sensors
- Catalytic converters (see muffler & exhaust)
- EVAP purge and vent valves, hoses and gas caps
- Ignition coils, spark plugs and misfire repair
- EGR valves and passages
- Exhaust leaks ahead of the oxygen sensors
Environmental Responsibility
The Wasatch Front’s winter inversions trap pollution in the valley, and vehicle emissions are a big part of it. Keeping your vehicle in spec isn’t only a registration requirement; it helps keep Weber County air cleaner and usually improves fuel economy too.
What Ogden Drivers Say
“Awesome place to get a oil change and emissions and your decals for your car in and out within 30 minutes. The men there are so polite and respectful and great customer service. Will always recommend and go there for my truck needs thanks you guys for such a great experience.”
Ami Houston
“I manage the 4WP in Ogden and we use this Master Muffler for all of our referrals. I recently had them put a performance muffler on an old SUV that I am restoring and they nailed it. We consulted and went with a plan that worked and I am very happy with the results. Will most definitely use them again.”
Brad Ashton
“These guys really helped me out. Went in for a catalytic converter replacement, which isn’t cheap these days. Gave me a bid, and actually came back after starting the work to tell me they could save me a bit of money with a different cat and a bit of welding. The mechanics in the shop are decent guys. Definitely give them a go.”
